How Smarter Container Design Improves Waste Management
At Sharpsafe, sustainability is built into how we define safety.
Healthcare waste solutions should protect people and minimise environmental impact.
That’s why we believe safety and sustainability must work together.
Smarter container design can significantly reduce waste volumes, transport emissions, and storage requirements, without compromising safety. Here’s how Sharpsafe makes a difference.
Designed for Maximum Usable Capacity
Container shape matters more than you think.
As part of an internal capacity test, we compared a 20L rounded container with the Sharpsafe 24L rectangular container, using 200 x 10ml serological pipettes to assess real-world usable capacity.
The results showed that the Sharpsafe rectangular design provides significantly better space efficiency, allowing more waste to be safely contained before disposal, reducing the number of containers used overall.
Nestable Design That Reduces Storage and Transport Impact
Sharpsafe containers are designed to nest and stack efficiently. This smart design delivers measurable environmental and operational benefits:
- Less storage space required in healthcare facilities
- Fewer transport movements, reducing logistics costs
- Lower CO₂ emissions across the supply chain
By optimising how containers are stored and transported, healthcare providers can reduce their environmental footprint before the container is even used.
